Position Information:

Job Title: Youth Services Librarian

FT/PT: Full time

Hours:  Full time position, 37.5 hours per week, includes evenings and weekends

Salary:  $17.36/hour

 

Position Description:

The Messenger Public Library is seeking a creative, energetic full-time librarian to join our Youth Services Department team. The Youth Services Department serves children birth – 18 years old and their caregivers. Primary responsibilities include: readers’ advisory and reference services, planning and implementing programming for children and teens, and collection management.

 

Requirements:

·         MLS from an ALA-accredited institution

·         Strong commitment to customer service

·         Ability to work with diverse populations of all ages

·         Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and to varied work schedules

·         Comfort with public speaking

·         Knowledge of current technology including: Microsoft Office, library automation systems, social networking, e-books, and e-resources

 

Preferred

·         Prior experience working with children, teens, and caregivers in a library setting

·         Knowledge of children’s and teen literature and current trends in programming

·         Experience in early childhood programming and/or community outreach

·         Spanish-language skills
